Columbia Engineering invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University in the City of New York. Applications at all ranks, including assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor, will be considered.
Candidates are sought broadly in the area of Carbon Management in the Context of Climate Science, with a passion and expertise among the following and similar areas:
- System-level design and decision-making for decarbonization
- Novel material, biological, and land-use approaches for CO2 capture and storage
- Sophisticated consideration of a circular carbon economy
- Utilization of captured CO2 for chemicals, fuels, and materials
- Decarbonization of the built environment, structurally and operationally
- Carbon storage and CO2 mineralization (ex-situ and in-situ)
- Ocean-based carbon capture and storage approaches
The successful candidate is expected to think holistically and critically regarding carbon capture and be a leading contributor to the advancement of their field and the department by developing an original and leading externally funded research program while extending the existing Columbia strength in the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering and the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy. They are expected to contribute to the Department's undergraduate and graduate educational mission. Columbia fosters multidisciplinary research and encourages collaborations with academic departments and units across the university. The Department actively participates in the school-wide Engineering for Humanity initiatives that relate to climate change mitigation, sustainable energy and water, and systems engineering and integration.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent by the start date of the appointment. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Applicants for this position, at the Assistant Professor and Associate Professor without tenure levels, must have the potential to do pioneering research and to teach effectively. Applicants for this position at the tenured level (Associate or Full Professor) must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research accomplishments, excellent teaching credentials, and established leadership in the field.

Hiring salary range: Professor: 133K-300K; Associate Professor (tenured): 121K-171K; Associate Professor (without tenure): 113K-159K; Assistant Professor: 108K-138K
