Associate Scientist

Job Summary:

Performs associate scientist-level role in workflow activities, requires working in the laboratory, and outdoors in the field. Primary responsibility will be collection of samples and daily analytical support of laboratory and algae farm operations. Candidate must be willing to work extended hours and on the weekends when required.

Essential Functions:

1. Collecting field samples.
2. Organizing and conducting routine analyses independently and in compliance with applicable methods, protocols, and SOPs.
3. Maintaining study documentation and laboratory records.
4. Independently performing basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and software appropriate for assigned tasks.
5. Performing scheduled routine tasks on a daily basis and effectively completing multiple assignments
6. Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory work environment
7. Prepares and conducts initial data analysis
8. Performing peer review and QC review of data
9. Understanding data generated, and history of methods
10. Recognizing deviations from normal results and informing coach of any problems and/or deviations that may affect the integrity of the data and participating in corrective action of problems
11. Identifying problems, determining appropriate actions, and implementing solutions with support or independently as appropriate
12. Identifying critical steps in an assay
13. May assist in optimizing and validating methods
14. Performing other related duties as assigned
15. Contributing to a cohesive team environment and planning individual workload in coordination with team members
16. Interacts with co-workers, suppliers, customers, and partners in a professional, considerate, and respectful manner
17. Fosters an environment of safety, camaraderie, and integrity in all aspects of work
18. Observes all laws, regulations, other applicable obligations, and Company ethical standards while on duty, wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
19. Performs work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
20. Notifies human resources of any activities that could violate or have the appearance of violating laws, regulations, obligations, ethical standards, potentially unsafe working conditions, procedures, or practices

Qualifications, Skills and Physical Demands:

• Bachelor of Science in biology or chemistry. Typical minimum experience is three years or more
• Must be able to work weekend shifts as required
• Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment
• Must be able to move 50 pounds at one time, multiple times throughout the workday.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position and use a computer or equipment for most of the day
• Must be able to work indoors in the lab traversing the lab while performing tasks such as transporting samples.
• Must be able to work outdoors all day in outdoor weather conditions, traverse algae farm, ascend/descend ladders, and remain in a stationary position 
• Positions self at ground level to perform tasks such as equipment maintenance and sample collection
• Must have strong communication, computer, documentation and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently on a self-initiated basis and as part of a team
• Computer literate with the knowledge of applications pertinent to position objectives
• Must be able to communicate via phone, video conference, and email with co-workers
• Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment and learn new concepts quickly
• Must be able to think strategically and have the ability to use independent judgment
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality
